How to Make Non-Alcoholic Wine: A Breakdown Of The Process

Vineyard for non-alcoholic wine

Do you enjoy a good glass of wine but don't like the alcohol content? Or maybe you're just looking for a healthier option that doesn't have any alcohol at all? In either case, you'll be happy to know that it is possible to make alcohol-free wine! In this post, we'll break down exactly how companies create zero alcohol wine, what it tastes like, and where you can find top-quality alcohol-free wine brands.

The Process Of Creating Wine

Interestingly enough, creating alcohol-free wine follows the same beginning process as making regular wine. This process includes the same three basic steps:

  •  Growing And Harvesting The Grapes

First, the grapes are grown until they are ripe and ready to be harvested. Once they are all packed, the grapes will be crushed. Depending on the wine style, the grapes are either crushed as-is, or the skins, seeds, and stems may be removed.

  •  Fermentation Process

Next, the fermentation process begins. Fermentation is when the sugars in the grape juice are turned into alcohol. The amount of time the wine is left to ferment depends on how sweet or dry the finished wine will taste.

    • Aging Process

Once fermentation is complete, the wine is then placed into barrels or tanks where it will age. The aging process can take anywhere from months to years, depending on the type of wine being made and the flavor profile being created.

    How Is Non-Alcoholic Wine Created?

Once all the above steps have been completed, the wine is ready to be bottled. However, to make no alcohol wine, additional processes need to be performed before the wine can be sold. Typically there are three main ways to remove the alcohol from the wine, including:

    Reverse Osmosis

During the reverse osmosis process, the components of the wine are separated through a filtration system using high pressure. From there, the elements are added back together, removing the alcohol but keeping the profile of the wine intact.

    Vacuum Distillation

During vacuum distillation, the wine is placed into a container and heated until the alcohol has been vaporized. The alcohol is then removed from the wine, leaving behind the water and other grape solids.

    Spinning Cones

Last but not least, is the spinning cone method. The wine is placed into a centrifuge, where it is spun at a very high speed. This process removes the alcohol from the wine without removing any other grape solids or flavors.

    Is No Alcoholic Wine Tasty?

Now that we know how alcohol-free wine is made, you might be wondering what it tastes like. The truth is, alcohol-free wine can taste just as good as regular wine! In fact, many people can't even tell the difference. But, of course, this will depend on the quality of the alcohol-free wine and the manufacturing process used.
